Doing Business in Myanmar
In
order to promote all round development of national economy, the
Government of the Union of Myanmar has geared up for very significant
policy changes in internal, external and other economic sectors
of the country, and basic and immediate orientation of the economic
life of the people to include "Striving hard to fulfil the
social
needs of Myanmar and to encourage private and cooperative sectors'
participation in the economic development activities of the country".
A
number of restructuring measures instituted are broadly designed
to open up the economy to foreign investment, increase international
trade, restructure and improve the efficiency of the public sector
and encourage the development of the private and cooperative sectors.
Thus, the restructuring measures are intended to lead to a more
liberal, market-oriented economic structure. Accordingly, laws,
orders, rules, regulations and notifications that have prohibited
or restricted the private sector from engaging in economic activities
such as export or import business were repealed. New legal policy
instruments were instituted to give the private sector including
foreign investors and businessmen the right to do business and to
make investment in Myanmar.
